Can you imagine yourself a guitar in hand singing to your captivated friends? If that’s too much, how about laid back in your living room with a glass of wine, playing your favorite song?
Well, I’m finishing up building a pilot course that will allow you to do exactly that.
EDIT: Enrolment for 3 Months to Guitar Independence is currently closed. Sign up to the newsletter to be notified of the next session.
What is the course about ?
This course is about providing a concrete step by step method to go from not knowing anything about guitar, to impressing your friends with a private 10 minute concert, in under 3 months.
The course is a collection of high definition sequential videos and specifically targeted articles. Since this is a pilot course, I am going to be testing the ideas extensively with the first batch of students in a high feedback environment. ( As a result, there will only be 50 seats available)
Here are the actionable outcomes I expect from anyone who completes the course.
After the course, you will be able to:
- Comfortably manipulate a guitar: how to hold it, tune it, change strings, etc.
- Sing and play at least 3 beautiful songs from beginning to end to an audience of your choice. Yeah, a concert.
- Have the tools to learn your next songs independently, and make them sound beautiful.
Because there aren’t many seats, I will only give more information about this course to those who might be interested in signing up.
If you are one of those people, please sign up here, where I’ll tell you how and when to apply to be a student in the pilot session:
Musical style:
I have found that the best suited music for learning to sing and play the guitar is folky and acoustic. In this course you will be learning songs from the likes of Ben Harper, Bob Dylan, and more.
If you can’t stand this type of music, this probably isn’t the course for you.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I need a guitar ?
Yes. You will need a guitar to learn how to play. If you don’t own one yet, do not worry about it. When the time comes, I will recommend a excellent entry level guitar for you. If you don’t want to buy a guitar, ask your friends. There is a 90% chance you have a friend who has a guitar he hasn’t touched in a long time. I’m sure you can convince him to lend it to you for the duration of the course. After all, you really want this, don’t you ?
I can’t sing, can I only learn how to play the guitar ?
Nope. Singing is mandatory in my course. I will write about the importance of singing when learning guitar soon. For now, you will have to trust me on this one. Even if you think you can’t sing, this is the best way to learn how to play songs on the guitar. You can do it. You WILL thank me later 🙂
This course isn’t for everyone. I’m looking for students who are excited by the prospect of being an amateur musician who can pick up a guitar and sing a song. My students are willing to invest 20 minutes a day 5 days a week to work towards this goal. If you can’t see yourself in either of these situations, I think it’s best you skip this course. Feel free to take advantage of my free material on the blog.
